1. if these guys were real Qui Gon would be from Duluth and would be insufferable. 2. geogically speaking i'm very interested in the geodynamics of the planet of naboo and its water core 3. the jedi are cool as individuals but are actually utilized as a kind of sketchy organization. they primarily act to serve goals, morals and intentions of "more developed" Core planets while often ignoring the sovereignty of Outer Rim/"less developed" planets. they do not address the systemic constructs that keep Outer Rim planets poor and dependent on Core planets and they ignore injustice if it is not relevant to their Republic mandated "mission". Also the practice of taking children at very young ages who are identified as being Force sensitive (and can therefore serve as agents of the Republic) and prohibiting them from partaking in their home culture/identity/family is very fucked up. the Jedi are pawns of the borderline-imperialist state. 4. anakin standing there silently while Qui Gon argues with the council reminds me of when I try to consult a specialist for an admission from the ED and then my attending starts beefing with them when they're mean to me 5. thanK you to Wookiepedia for facilitating this review

watched again cuz Hayden wanted to watch it in the theaters and it was still great really enjoy how the alien threat is not some big bad evil but just another organism doing its best to survive. also enjoyed how it used science/physics/biology as a source of joy and amazement and fun rather than a threat or to create a scifi-scary-cool-intimidating way. Also realized that Andy Weir writes books how I would imagine one would write Scientific American fanfiction

this movie was epitome of "girl who is going to be okay". astronaut who is going to be okay. Ryan Gosling try not to make a movie playing an astronaut that has not-so-secret themes about the power of love and connection challenge failed twice. was kind of not wanting to watch this despite all my most trusted advisors telling me to because I assumed that it would be a stressful serious scifi and I was so happy to be wrong. I LOVE OPTIMISM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! to quote my partner, "the colors, incredible". 5 stars

Julie Andrews has the worlds most lovely velvety voice
