Frankenstein
if you cannot award me love, then I will indulge in rage
This was a must watch for me since I loved Mary Shelleys novel and this cast was crazy. Christoph Waltz, Mia Goth, Jacob Elordi ?!!
Cinematigraphy wise an absolutely georgeous movie. The manor Viktor buys, that round window, Mia Goth in those dresses, the nature, the rain & sun - just breathtaking. I'm obsessed. Some scenes have that twilight 2000s hoahoahoa blue vibe to it. But in the best way possible.
I really love how they portrayed 'the creature', I apprechiate that he's not green with screws in his head. He's human - but not quite - in a heartbreaking way. The characters in general are great aswell as their acting.
My only problem is Viktor Frankenstein being this older man whos given lectures for decades upon decades. Cause thats just not true.
I usually don't mind smaller changes when books get adapted into film since they're entirely different artforms. But Viktor being young is an important part of the story.
He's naive, the kind of arrogant only a young man could be. He creates life basically on a whim, just because he can. And then he's overwhelmed, terrified of his own creation and abandons him. He's underestimated what bringing new life into this world looks like.
I don't think this movie portrays that as well as it could. But thats not to say it gets it totally wrong. It's just one of those things that kind of bugged me throughout the whole two hours.
All in all I was amazed by this movie, it's a great watch especially if you've read the book. (Always better to read the book first and watch its movie afterwards.) It's gloomy, it's interesting and it asks questions we can't quite answer.
(This is my first time writing a review, tried my best.)
