*“I struggle now to remember much of my childhood. It only comes back to me in small fragments, and even those memories are hard to trust.”* The film opens with this monologue from Adult Sasha and it immediately reminded me of Aftersun. The core of both these films are also similar, which is **memories**. We see in Aftersun and Blue Heron how the main characters try to make sense of their memories. But as the quote puts it, those memories are hard to trust. While Aftersun is more subtle in its portrayal of Calum's mental illness, Blue Heron does the opposite with Jeremy's condition. In the second half of the film, we get to see how serious and painful Jeremy's condition is, not only to himself but also to his family.
