Sinners
one of the most thoughtful vampire movies i’ve seen in a while; it wasn’t hung up on the fact that it had to be a vampire movie, nor did it completely feel alien to the tropes underpinning it.
a little strange that it barely touched upon the basic makeup and lore of their vampires, (preferring usual tropes of wooden stakes, resistant to silver, blood-lust, etc and just going with it) but it actually suited the narrative really well! i loved the designs of the teeth especially — they worked so well when utilised as a horror element! the eyes and the sudden flying was also terrifying.
the characters were really charming and especially realistic; delta slim and annie in particular. also, the vampires themselves were CHILLING — owed to such a rich performance from all of their actors.
i would’ve preferred the horror elements be at least touched upon in the first, but it otherwise it is a welcome and an overall creative approach. still allowed a measured pace, with a really note-worthy cinematography, excellent action, and a satisfying ending. the i lied to you scene had incredible direction + emotional where it counted + the soul of the movie.
score was also BEAUTIFUL. that’s all I need to say.
overall, wish there was more. lovely acting, score, and take on the vampire genre. DESERVED its success and more.
