Cure
Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s Cure is a film which gripps the viewer from the beginning, despite it’s slowburn.
It forces you to pay attention to every little detail, building insane tension and dread. Once a series of odd murders surge Tokyo, we follow detective Takabe, as he becomes desperate to solve them and loses his sanity after confronting the potential killer. Regarding that, I love how the movie examines identity as well as psychology and mesmerism, making you question who really are you? The film is filled with so much angst and unease, that it pierces the heart more deeply than any jumpscare ever would. If you listen closely there’s this weird sound repeating itself throughout the whole movie. Overall, I think that it’s a fantastic psychological horror and truly beautiful cinematically, which really etches in your mind.
