Emerald Fennell may go down as one of the most frustrating directors of our modern era. First, there’s Saltburn which could’ve been commentary had she not come out and disputed everyone trying to find any sort of message from it. Then, she literally gets handed a story that does all the work for her at least in terms of trying to be meaningful and instead of allowing for any of that, we got this. Meaningless sexual provocation can’t replace the commentary Bronte’s novel had. God knows wtf the casting director was doing, they may as well have retired and pulled a boyhood for this film instead of casting 30 year olds to play teenagers. Or maybe if they’d have to have waited a couple years for the child stars to age, someone might’ve stepped up and realized this project should’ve been scrapped. At least we got a new Charli album out of it I guess

Can’t believe I actually liked a musical

Love the jump from a depressing film to straight up insanity at the end
