The Shadow's Edge
Dare I say one of the most beautiful depictions of cinematography for a martial arts film. As soon as the film began the shooting style blew me away, even though throughout the film the directing took on different forms - it still blended beautifully and represented both the content and the context.
This movie made me truly understand why martial arts is called ‘martial arts’. Every single actor executed their scenes perfectly, with so much emotion I didn’t know was possible for an action film. Even the stereotypical western actors that typically haunt Asian cinema were portrayed fairly well.
I also firmly believe this was a letter to the future of Chinese martial artists and actors as Jackie Chan performed his bittersweet send off, whilst maintaining his guardian like image.
The half star missing is due to the fact my mans Wen Junhui was barely in it, and three fine shyts died.
