So incredibly disturbing. Theres so many things i could comment on but i especially loved the thought that went into the mise en scene. If you've watched the film you know they would often take drugs and hallucinate, when i talk about the mise en scene i want to comment on the the fact that the background is often moving, this almost reminds us of the disorientation of dani et al and gives us a sense of uncomfort. I always want to mention the yellow pyramid shaped temple. For the majority of its scenes I think the way it was centered in the exact middle made it feel off putting and intimidating especially since we didn't know what it was at that point but we later realise its for sacrafices, this idea of sacrafice is shown through the film using the colour yellow which symbolised rebith and cyclic death - contrary to this we see that the darker colours and winter motif serves as a thematic counterweight which represents trauma, stagnation and grief. We also can link it to death seeing as during the intro with the storytelling mural the left side is dominated by bluish/grey colours and a family with a skull hovering over them . This lets us also think of dark colours as a warning for death. 10/10 masterfully curated !!

Classically good !

I really like hows theres 2 aspects to this film, the magic and fantasy whilst also including themes of war and facism. I think that all the creatures are so well designed and i think theres something so important about how she trust the fae more than her stepfather. I also like the aspects of the anti fascim and the resistance fightingback. Really great film guillemo del toro always outdoes himself!

Beautiful film.
