This was not at all what I was expecting but man was it good. I would not decribe it as scary at all but extremely eery. Kubrick is the king of creating that feeling. Nicholson and Shelley were born for these roles and I absolutely loved the ending.

Daniel Day Lewis gave one of the best acting performances I have seen. Sometimes men hootin and hollerin is indeed good acting. However it’s one of those movies that gets its value from deep messages and not straight up “entertainment”. What I enjoyed about this movie is that it ironically gets a lot of themes from some of my favorite pieces of media, Breaking Bad and Red Dead Redemption. Daniel has so many parallels to Walter White, and the turn of the century story centered on capitalism, greed, and honor in a society with shifting values is so similar to Red Dead Redemption.

Really interesting to see the come up. Andrew Garfield is such a likable actor, and even though it’s dramatized, having Jesse Eisenburg as a neutral “antagonist” to him as his best friend was cool. Just didn’t have the “wow” factor I was expecting but still solid. London Tipton and JT in the cast is wild.

First watch. Only slightly disappointed that I saw the plot coming within the first couple minutes. However this didn’t take away from it all, the plot was so deep that it always has you questioning what reality is. The ambiguity of the actual ending is what makes this movie special. One of the best movies I’ve seen in the last couple years.
