Boogie Nights
When it gets dark, do the stars need to go too? Apparently they do so, look at our “I am going to be a star, a big bright shining star” eager to please guy go to “I am a star. A big bright shining star” and lose all that glimmering light from his eyes as we see him in the final scene fully dehumanizing himself. I’m not sure if this is about found family since they all pushed each others self-deception, definitely there is a lot of stigma attached to the porn industry and its members, some of them will endorse it as just a job, some will put their whole identity and status into their acclaimed fame and recognition and we watch them fall the moment they get possibly replaced, however the viewers who ask for these services and pay for their continuation are in no position to criticize the existence of this medium.
It ain’t a glorification of the porn industry, PTA build the whole scene with such mastery and delicacy, opposite to what you would expect for a movie about porn, but then there was nothing else to do but tear it down and it all happened quite blatantly. You could all guess how it would end and you could argue about the point of the movie but this is a moral movie not moralistic, and it absolutely nailed the fun parts.
(absolutely loved that Burt Reynolds’s character in the beginning shot his movies exclusively on film and was very vocal about his choice, like Mr Anderson is about analog cinema, and then completely gave up his vision and just followed the rising of trends as he loses his muse and interest in the media)
