Barbie
If you're listening to Film Twitter about how this film is overrated... just ignore it. This is the second time I've watched Barbie and it's still as great as I remembered it.
Margot Robbie as Barbie has to be one of the most perfect casting choices of all time, and her portrayal of the famous doll is yet more proof of how great she is at both comedic timing and acting, showing with perfection a wide range of emotions that really make you empathize with with her. Ryan Gosling as Ken is also a great example, not only being very funny as Ken but also doing a great job at showing Ken's insecurity about himself.
The other Barbies and Kens also add a lot of flavor and heart to the film, with special mention to Weird Barbie, and Allan was also a very great character. The human characters are also very well-rounded and well-acted, and I really loved Barbie's interactions with her human owner, Gloria, and her daughter, Sasha.
So, I'm not getting to into detail about the themes since that's better for a YouTube video essay, but not only is this film a pretty good deconstruction (and actually effective one in my perosnal opinion) of both Feminism and the Patriarchy, showing how it not only affects women but also men (something that some films would rather ignore just beacuse), but it also works as a very in-depth nad emotional analysis of what it means to be a human, especially from a women's perspective.
And all of this within a Barbie movie, who would've thought? So, please check it out if you ever get the chance.
