Downfall
It's slow for most of the run time but "Downfall" did something that I didn't expect from a movie like this. Going in, I thought we would see Hitler as a monstrous tyrant and, while we do get those moments, particularly the most famous scene from the movie, he is also portrayed with some gentle touches. He is without a doubt one of the most evil men who ever lived but we do see his real life effected by this and how he treats those close to him and it's fascinating because I never saw this side of Hitler. The character is now more fleshed out and feels real on screen and Bruno Ganz just freaking nails it (why no Oscar nom?). I also really enjoyed the hand-held cinematography, the descriptive dialogue, the relaxing score and the last act of the film that was just one intense moment after another. I would like to re-watch it later in the future.
