Naked
"Was I bored? No, I wasn't fuckin' bored. I'm never bored. That's the trouble with everybody – you're all so bored. You've had nature explained to you, and you're bored with it. You've had the living body explained to you, and you're bored with it. You've had the universe explained to you, and you're bored with it. So now you just want cheap thrills and like plenty of 'em, and it doesn't matter how tawdry or vacuous they are as long as it's new, as long as it's new, as long as it flashes and fucking bleeps in forty fucking different colours."
'Naked' is one of those movies like 'Mysterious Skin' and 'Beautiful Boy', where you say it is amazingly good but won't recommend it because of its disturbing scenes and themes. Only with this movie it goes so fucked-up and dark so quickly, the two other before mentioned movies just don't compare anymore, as they eventually reach a certain peak of horror, whereas Naked just continuously keeps going and keeps getting more fucked up the longer you watch. It's still a great movie, but the incredibly nihilistic setting and bleak atmosphere, just really make you wonder if it was worth watching it. For me, I do not regret watching it, as in my opinion it certainly is a piece of art, but I really wouldn't recommend this if you have difficulties handling shocking scenes and/or if you are struggling with trauma.
I must say though that Thewlis' acting is absolutely outstanding. The dialogues are unbelievably amazing, and it truly shows how phenomenal of an actor he is.
