Sinners
Wow. I know I’m behind the times on this, but I wanted to wait and digest this film when I had time to fully watch and digest it without the social media noise affecting my reaction. Ryan Coogler truly had a vision and executed it to perfection. Every shot, cut, piece of dialogue was deliberate. This movie felt like it was crafted lovingly by people who genuinely love to create. It is so hard to make something as fantastical as vampires feel real and grounded, but damn they did it. Not to mention, I was actually frightened by the vampires. NOBODY WANTS TO MAKE VAMPIRES SCARY ANYMORE?!! But Ryan Coogler did it thank God. The story was so well-written. The symbolism, which I know has already been dissected by better minds than I, was so incredibly well thought out. The music was stunning. The performances were outstanding. Soooo happy this film was everything everyone said and more. It more than deserved the 16 Oscar nominations it got and I hope it takes the lot.
