there's often a heated discussion whether this film is an underrated misunderstood piece or simply a trash "legal" snuff film. personally, i think it's pretty good. obviously there's pros and cons within this film. it definitely has its own place in horror. yet it is undeniable that this film kind of runs the same problem as the Saw franchise, with the excessive gore and violence that was shown throughout the film a lot of people tends to stop caring about it. i do personally think the characters are fine, and Tara as fmc is quite well-written imo. she's not dumb and has capabilities of thinking to survive unlike some mcs in other horror films. i love her character so much and wish she's the final girl instead. there's also discussion about the possible blatant misogyny in this film and to the people who claimed Art is misogynistic, I just wanna say, have you watched the film? cuz i can guarantee that Art treated, tortured and killed both men and women in the same way, perhaps he killed women in more dramatic way but honestly there's not really difference between how he killed both gender. he's also, literally cross-dressing in one of the scenes. though he probably does it to torment the sister, the point is that a misogynist person would die on the spot at the thought of crossdress if we're being honest. however, I'd like to play the devil's advocate and said that Art would be a great representation of misogyny/misogynistic men. think about it, from the earliest scenes, Art has took his liking towards Tara, giving her rings joyfully (flirting, I suppose?) and she's being open of disliking and feeling uncomfortable of him. and when misogynists didn't get what they want and being rejected, they escalate things! just like what Art did. i do find him kinda cute tho. he's also a cool slasher villains imo, the way he taunts his victims is frightening, and I absolutely love how he's literally an overpowered cosmic being that can't death, yet he still brings shit like guns for emergencies, and for any level of shenanigans he committed. literally being the only slasher killer that broke the slasher standards. he's a silly yet the most unpredictable character ever exists. although he's clearly understands English, he is nonspeaking, but he's super verbal in expressing himself. that makes us able to understand his character even more. i love how he literally acts like a fucking clown and committed to every bit. the fact that Art went from starring in a short film, to an anthology film, to a semi low budget film, to a full fleshed out franchise, and is now considered to be along the greats horror icons is amazing. there's definitely a lot to praise and criticize about this film, but i enjoy it nonetheless and that's what matters to me.

needs more silly movies like this one. watching it while eating 10/10 highly recommend lmao

I've watched this back in 2024 and completely forgot the entire plot. rewatch it for the second time. this film might be the best found footage horror I've ever watched and its made by a talented comedian! it's a simple story nonetheless, yet the execution and the performance are perfect. im an avid horror fan and enjoy found footage horror films. which is exhausting since it's really hard to find new materials or concept within found footage type film, it's always a copy of others or a great idea with ass execution. this is what a good found footage film should be. not relying on cheap jumpscare in front of camera to startled the viewers, or excessive gore that at most times felt incredibly unnecessary. instead it focus on realism, the characters are well-written and genuine, and the intense weirdness of fucking everything. which makes me love it. the cinematography too, is insane. its not grimy or with low quality aesthetic like most other footage films, the quality is good, yet it still kept that "found footage" aesthetic and charm to it. i thought the portrayal of the serial killer is crazy too, absolutely terrifying. the way his mind works, his nonchalance of holding murder and hiding someone's wallet on the same low level, but the intense anger about being called non-creative is so well researched. the calmness and eerieness everytime he talks through the lenses are intriguing. my favourite bit is definitely his last discourse of him talking about being the greatest and most creative serial killer that's ever lived. that shit was so sinister. I really love a deranged, apathetic psychopath characters that seemed normal in the beginning. he's just a goofy gobber who also happens to be a criminal mastermind. how could you not love his character? i mean i could already tell the guy's a fucking psycho the moment he talked about how he killed a cat before. the whole "my partner in crime" birthday wish from his friend was foreshadowing the whole film and I thought the detail is neat. the ending? shocking. the implication being that Milk, the deranged motherfucker has planned for his friend, Seven to shoot him, so he put a blank in first. this is also why Milk was so concerned abt Seven accidentally discharging the weapons. idk, the plot is compelling and enganging despite having a simple premise. in the end, it's a solid film for horror film enjoyers and the fact that this whole film is FREE on youtube to watch is perplexing. 10/10 highly recommend✨

*i think im obsessed with this short film.* THIS. this is what an oscar-worthy animation film looks like. the animation is so beautiful, the art style looks like essence of Burton-esque, yet still managed to be unique and otherworldly different than other animation style I've seen. ethereally haunting to look at. even the poster of the film gives me somewhat renaissance-esque painting. i love how the film presented itself in the form of a modernized fable. i appreciated how the film was structured, the way the narrative unfolded is brillian imo, the dialogue is so well crafted, the storytelling technique felt like I was reading a classic literature/fairy tale, with so many eloquent and gradiose words being used. the scene where the girl cried pearls for the first time was genuinely exhilarating. i thought the part where the girl's father unfortunately died was indeed upsetting, and the scene of the boy discovered hundreds of pearls of the girl's tears is such a phenomenal visual. I like the biblical reference of Adam and Eve as well, i thought the addition was neat and fitted with the story. i was definitely flabbergasted with the ending though, it was shocking since the man (who was the boy) claimed he made the story up, but I was confused with his longing expression when his granddaughter asked if the girl that cried pearls even exist. perhaps there's more to it. still i love the ambiguity. in the end, its a marvelous animated film, with aesthetically pleasing animation style and thought-provoking story.
