I am completely blown away by everything that ends up happening and how it went from holes in the ground to alternate dimensions, but it would be so much better if there wasn't so much fanservice thrown in. It genuinely takes away from every aspect of the anime because it often interrupts the fights and moments where the emotional core is meant to shine. For this reason, my memory of the earlier episodes is fuzzy just because I didn't feel like watching something with so much fanservice, even if it is critically acclaimed.
With the timeskip, there is a bit of a feeling that the second arc came out of nowhere, but it ends up completing the character-focused and core themes at the most extreme yet fitting level. The massive scale of it all feels unnatural at first, but it connects to the theme well and is just really cool to watch.
I will say that I am still not a fan of whenever an anime has lines overlaid to represent fast movement, and whenever the shot just loops instead of following the full motion. It does end up having a really cool fluid style by the end, though.
Anyway, my final thoughts are that this would be one of the coolest, most inspirational, and hype things ever made if it wasn't for the massive amount of fanservice thrown in.
