Your Lie in April
This destroyed me emotionally to a level I had never experienced and probably never will again. I was expecting to cry during the final episode (and I did, multiple times throughout a single watch) because Instagram spoiled it for me a few months back. Even before that, I fully understood its reputation as the ‘yearly trauma anime’ and I aimed to experience it in that exact way. I was not expecting to start crying at multiple episodes before the finale, but on episode 13 and on was full waterworks and sometimes multiple times per episode. I would get hit emotionally, recover, then get hit emotionally yet again, and so on. I watched earlier half of the series during my own audition preparation, and while I couldn’t relate to the traumatic aspects, I did relate back to wanting to perfect it as much as possible. I sacrificed valuable time that should’ve been spent on schoolwork, ending up with 11 missing assignments (all of which got turned after the audition). The later half I have no words for, only tears.
