Yojimbo
This was an amazing epic tale about the consequences of rivalry, hate, feud, and grudges.
The main character, to me, is more of a plot device, being an almost messenger-like character for the narrative to play out. He goes through little character development, because I feel his kindness was always there and, even though he got beat up, he ended up the same as he started, badass af.
The setting is kinda western in feel even though I know this is more OG. The cinematography was great and the usage of separation in the shots drastically made up how you experience the narrative subconsciously. The usage of movement in things like nature or kimonos or even the movements of the characters were well shot.
The acting made it feel like a play and i LOVED IT. How everyone was so expressive in their emotions and it was a great way to convey how the characters are feeling or thinking, even if thats not what they’re saying.
The ending was a nice bit of a lesson, cause and effect, hatefulness and grudges are never good for any party.
