Four men risk life and limb for 2000$, transporting trucks full of nitroglycerin, desperate to finally leave the place they’re trapped in. It’s one of the most thrilling movies i’ve seen, and not because of explosions or action, but because every bump in the road could be their last. The suspense in this film is built almost entirely on anticipation, and it works soooooo well!! I don't know if it's because I'm obsessed with the Odyssey and reading it right now, but I'm currently seeing Odysseus journey home in everything. one obstacle after another after another..every mile fought for, the road always finding a new way to keep them reaching the end.. I SEE IT EVERYWHERE I also love how the journey slowly strips the men down to who they really are. Courage, fear, selfishness, loyalty… it all comes out. And that ending?!?! I genuinely can’t believe this was made in 1953. We say movies are “ahead of their time” all the time but this one actually deserves it. I really really loved it !!

never thought I’d see Al Pacino tied up to a bed in bondage gear but here we are.. it’s been a while since I’d watched an Al Pacino movie, I do love him, but I’m not sure I love this one. It has such an interesting premise, a police officer goes undercover in the gay leather/BDSM scene to catch a serial killer. On paper, that’s right up my alley but it never really clicked for me. the editing feels off, it gets confusing here and there, even surprisingly boring at times. I didn’t hate it, but I definitely didn’t love it, and I really wanted to love it.. out of the 12 Al Pacino movies I’ve seen this year, this is one of my least favorites. at least it did remind me of Serpico, so I’ll give it that !!

I’m not the biggest marvel/superhero fan, my exception has always been Spiderman, and I don’t really know how to feel… I was entertained the whole time (there are some really great sequences) but by the end I felt a little dissatisfied. Maybe I’m just not caught up with the current Marvel phase and all the lore, but I never really understood what the movie was building toward. I was enjoying what I was watching but it felt like nothing had any real stakes. It almost feels like the movie is more interested in setting up what’s next, and maybe because I’m so out of the loop that just doesn’t excite me as much ?? There are also a lot of half baked ideas.. I would’ve loved for the whole “mutation” thing (no spoilers) to be a much bigger part of the story, maybe even a little darker. It did lead to one of my favorite moments though “I’m both” scene was pretty cool ngl. I also liked the idea that isolating yourself to avoid pain isn’t the answer, especially at a time when so many people my age are withdrawing from life out of fear of getting hurt. But even though that idea kinda lingers throughout the movie, it never goes beyond scratching the surface. then again, maybe that’s on me.. I can’t really expect that level of depth from a superhero movie that’s trying to appeal to everyone. he’s literally the most universal character ever. The crowd was probably the best part, packed screening, everyone was laughing, cheering, and reacting together. As for the movie itself, I’m still not sure if I’ve just grown out of my superhero phase or if this one just wasn’t for me. I need to rewatch the Sam Raimi trilogy and find out. So yeah.. I had fun with it but it never fully came together for me. I do wish we’d gotten more of the trio. MORE NED!!!!! I also really liked seeing Florence again, it’s been a while, missed her she’s always great !!
