Train Dreams
Train Dreams is a moving, harsh, sad and beautiful at the same time.
The pacing is slow but never boring, Bentley trusts you as the viewer to sit with it instead of rushing you along.
I love the soundtrack, it’s subtle but constantly doing enough, quietly shaping the mood of each scene.
The cinematography is great in a grounded way - nothing flashy just consistently strong shots encapsulating the landscapes and environment of the world around Grainier as time passes by.
The final montage is what really pushed this film from a 4 to a 4.5. It’s simple yet emotional and very effective - everything the film has been building towards lands all at once. A quiet ending that somehow hits hard and stays with you.
Rewatch worthy 100%
