Hope
this is based on a true story. and they gave him 12 years.
12 years. for what he did to an 8 year old girl on her way to school. let that sit.
the film doesn’t show you the crime. it shows you everything after. the father who can’t hug his own daughter anymore because she flinches at his touch. the mother screaming into a silence that never answers back. a family trying to hold each other together with hands that are shaking.
and the world just moves on. the justice system shrugs. people go back to their lives. and this little girl has to learn how to exist in a body that was taken from her before she even understood what that meant.
this movie made me angrier than i’ve ever been at a screen. not at a character. at everything. at the world. at how we treat the ones we fail and then call it justice.
i don’t think i’ll ever be okay about this one. i’m not supposed to be.
