Moonlight
i interpreted the final shot as chiron's inner child finally beginning to heal. after spending his entire life building walls around himself just to survive, being touched so gently by someone he truly loved allowed him to feel like that little boy again. it wasn’t just physical intimacy, it was the kind of love, safety, and acceptance he’d been deprived of for so much of his life. for the first time in years, he didn’t have to be “black”, he could just be chiron.
i also kept thinking about that final image of little chiron on the beach. maybe it represents his younger self looking at the man he would become and realizing that, despite everything he went through, happiness was still possible. or maybe it's the opposite: his adult self finally reconnecting with the child he had buried for so long. i even like the idea that his younger self is simply proud of him, not because he became tough or feared, but because he finally allowed himself to be vulnerable again.
that’s what made the ending so beautiful to me. it made me think about the version of ourselves we leave behind as we grow up. don’t we all hope to become someone our 10-year-old selves would look up to? someone they’d see and think, “you made it. you survived. and you found the love we always deserved.”
