As soon as you see that opening tracking shot, you know you’re in good hands. That PTA was only 26 when he directed this is insane! I still remember accidentally getting in the shower with my socks still on at one point when I was 26! Also pretty wild that Leonardo DiCaprio was the first choice to play Dirk Diggler, but he was already working on Titanic. Probably a blessing in disguise, though — Marky Mark’s goofy ass adds a natural air of imprudence, haste and airheadedness to the role that I’m not sure Leo could pull off (as well). I also want to point out that he had more sexual chemistry with John C. Reilly than any of the women he had sex with. Shout-out to Nina Hartley the GOAT.
