C'mon C'mon
When Jesse said, "C'mon, c'mon, c'mon, c'mon,
c'mon, c'mon" re: his future, I felt that.
As someone navigating — only recently — the world of generational trauma and cycle-breaking, this really struck a chord with me. There are familial issues: Johnny and his sister Viv lost their mom and became estranged from one another, Jesse’s dad is battling his demons while Viv does her best to assuage the situation for the sake of both his and Jesse’s well-being, and Johnny has split from his partner. The cracks definitely show, but everyone is trying their best.
Johnny is obviously in way over his head when he agrees to temporarily take care of Jesse, but it was incredible to see him and Jesse gradually develop a symbiotic relationship as they began to make each other better versions of themselves.
This movie felt like a big two-hour hug telling me that everything will be OK. Shouts out kid actors who understand the assignment and ace it, shouts out the Dessner Bros. for a hauntingly beautiful score, and shouts out Jaboukie.
