Disclosure Day
Oh! To be Steven Spielberg. To be nearly 80 years old and to not miss a beat is something profound. This is entertainment personified. I love that he went back to his roots and is making excellent sci-fi thrillers.
Disclosure Day is basically echoing in the spirit of Close Encounters Of The Third Kind in that it is more hopeful and contemplative and raising philosophical questions about truth and trust. In this universe, who is to be the custodian of truth? Can its inhabitants be trusted with such sensitive matters ? And what are the consequences for knowing the truth? And while there are no definitive answers to these questions, this film does its best in raising them and let the universe find its answer. Brilliant stuff
I don’t know why majority of who watched this film didn’t like it. On a technical level, this is one of his best, up there with the very best in alien-contact storytelling. I loved this film of his. The direction was really good. The suspense at the end was the one that did it for me. The performances were otherworldly, especially Emily Blunt’s. Couldn’t ask for more.
I hope we get to see more of first-contact sci-fi from Steven Spielberg. He’s a specialist in this genre, and is one of a kind. Can’t wait to watch it again and fully understand the questions it’s asking and perhaps be able to answer them definitively.
