Love Jones
“Romance...is the possibility of the thing. It’s like poetry…is the possibility of language”
Black love. Spoken-word poetry. Jazz & Neo-soul soundscape. Black renaissance sensibility. Intimacy. This film has it all. It’s the most beautiful black love depicted in a film ever in my opinion. It’s rich and warm in texture that you could see it oozing through the screen. The chemistry is off the charts, almost as if the film relies mostly on mood and rhythm. The backdrop of Chicago as a creative hub for black literary culture is the most compelling aspect of this film, almost acting as a character in itself. This film is less about falling in love and mostly about holding onto it with utmost adoration. It isn’t rushed. It isn’t chaotic. It takes its time to capture the mood of the characters while also setting up for an epic adventure on love, intimacy, heartbreak and friendship.
Beautiful film. I’ll most definitely rewatch it again
