Obsession
My God, this is one of the best psychological horror films I’ve ever seen and I dare someone to tell me it’s recency bias that’s causing me to have this opinion. It’s ok to have the notion that a recently premiered film can be as good as any other canonized film within the same genre.
I’ve watched this piece of art and I can’t help but hold it with absolute reverence. The writing, the direction, the cinematography, the performances, the high critical and audience score, the box-office hit and the overall quality is up there with one of the best of its genre. It’s why I said this film has the potential to hold a canonical status and the only thing lacking is the passage of time.
The performances are otherworldly. Inde Navarrette with one of the most memorable breakout performances ever. I think we’ve got a star in our hands and even has a very high chance of at least an Academy Award nomination. With the Academy having historically under-recognized this genre, hopefully this film gets its love from the voters. Something in me loves when a star gets their breakthrough and witness their ascension and I hope that’s the case with Inde Navarrette, fingers crossed.
The direction of this film was impeccable. For a young director to come up with such an otherworldly performance behind the camera is a true testament to his genius.
This film is as good as it gets. A low-budget film of under a million shattered the box office and became the highest grossing original live-action film of the 2020s. For a movie to make five hundred times its production budget is truly unheard of, borderline ridiculous.
