What a character Travis Bickle is. He yearns for companionship yet discouraged by how superficial everything and everyone is; Including his love interest Betsy Now Betsy is the typical definition of Superficially superficial. She is presented as someone who is highly unattainable, at least to someone of Travis’ nature, confident and the beauty yet she is lonely and unhappy. Even going out with Travis for the first time was a mere gesture of finding him mysterious and worth looking into and even referring to him as a walking contradiction. She even left him with the excuse of “wanting to have sex with her” after taking her to a porno date lmao. And after Travis’ name was mentioned in the papers for his heroic act, tried to rekindle whatever she thought they had. Ugh at the end when he left her dumbfounded was the highlight of the film. His fatherly advice with Iris was the most beautiful and touching part of the film. don’t get me started with the jazzy melancholy that left me very emotional. An instant classic film. I loved it
