Poor Things
I think I had as pleasant a time as possible for watching this with both my parents.
BUT otherwise I LOVED this movie. Aside from some interesting thoughts about her brain development when she starts ~exploring~ things, this movie was so good. (editing this: it makes sense that this is uncomfortable. These men prey on vulnerable women, and Bella falls for that, but also her lack of conformity to society gives her a unique perspective and as she grows just becomes immune to their predatory behavior which is absolutely appalling to men aka Ruffalo’s character and they go insane). Emma Stone is phenomenal, Mark Ruffalo is hilariously annoying, and Willem Dafoe is a means well freak! At one point all three of us were laughing out loud in the theater. Some may think Bella’s look on life is lackluster and misogynistic, which I can slightly understand, but by the end she is happy, empowered and content with what she has learned in this life and revealed from her past one and I believe has truly become her own self.
Both Emma Stone herself and Bella’s character are gifts to this world. Makes sense why Ruffalo and Youssef are obsessed with her.
And Margaret Qualley cameo?! Just too good.
