this movie is strong enough to put an atheist in church on a sunday. whether you’re a believer or non-believer, dreyer’s ability to examine complexities of faith through the lens of a christianity-grounded film makes for probably one of the best religious-based movies. dreyer impressed me with joan of arc, but holy shit he really got to me with ordet. i’m willing to argue that this is on the level of bergman’s seventh seal and winter light.
