Some of the best practical effects ever, I don’t think another movie will top it. In the end you’re left with more questions than answers, and I think that fits just right. Builds its tensions off of Cold War and McCarthyism? This fear of someone not being themselves, these mock trials made to find out who and who’s not. In the end whether or not either Childs or Macready is ‘The Thing’ sticks with you, if their both human both men die having saved the world, if either is the monster, they’ll freeze over and the whole story will repeat. Even the ending is rooted in uncertainty.
