I Origins
I don’t think Ian ever loved Sofi.
He didn’t even understand what love was. He didn’t deserve her, to him, she was just interesting, something mysterious he wanted to figure out. He kept calling her childish, unrealistic, and never once truly tried to understand her.
And that’s what breaks me. Even at the end, when he meets the little girl with Sofi’s eyes, he doesn’t feel it, he tests it. When she doesn’t pass the test perfectly, he looks disappointed, because he needs proof to exist.
That scene in the elevator, when the girl gets scared, I think that was Sofi’s final attempt to reach him, to make him believe. Maybe, for a second, she did. But deep down, Ian still needs evidence. He’ll never really see.
It’s so depressing how people like Sofi, the ones who believe, who feel the unseen, are always the ones who suffer.
And the ones who don’t believe… they witness the miracle right in front of them and still deny it.
Sofi deserved so, so much more.
And don’t even get me started on poor Karen. She deserved a husband who truly loved her, not someone barely aware of her existence.
