David (Steve Carell) asks his son a vital question – “why”. however “Beautiful Boy” does not provide us with the answer. as we explore the relationship between a father and a son, throughout Nic”’s (Timothee Chalamet) meth addiction we never reach the reason for this. because ultimately it doesn’t matter. it doesn’t that Nic was skilled at writing, it doesn’t matter that he used to surf, it doesn’t matter that he has little siblings he cares about, nor does it matter that he has a support system.because this movie is not about addiction per se, at least i don’t think it is, it’s about about a father and a son that deeply love each other. and meth.
