Supergirl
I really wanted to like this movie. The hype and momentum from last summer's Superman were palpable. James Gunn really made us feel like we were entering a new golden age of the DCU. We were tricked.
The biggest glaring issue with Supergirl is the script. The story takes way too long to get going. Kara and her English friend whose family was killed by some brigands (a word I never want to hear again) kind of faff around space going from place to place, vomiting exposition the entire time. It isn't until around the 50 minute mark (I know I checked) when the story finally gets going.
Lobo shows up, looking like a rejected KISS member, a fight with Krem breaks out, and then the movie weirdly slows down a bit before we get a final boss fight with Krem before it's over.
Mamoa and Alcock are fine but the English gal added nothing to the story which is saying something because it opens with her family getting slaughtered which sets off the rest of the movie. It barely felt like Supergirl's story. I'm not going to compare this to the comic it's based on because it's two very different mediums but as a standalone movie this sucked. They needed to have either hired a seasoned writer or just made Superman 2 and made a few dollars.
