Kill Bill: Vol. 1
Kill Bill is a cool movie. Cool might seem too simple a word to describe that movie, but I disagree. I think that is what Quentin Tarantino set out to do: make a cool movie. From the 70s aesthetic to the overly choreographed sword fights to Uma Thurman and her iconic yellow motorcycle jacket, it was just a cool looking, cool feeling movie. A simple quote describes the vibe of this movie perfectly: “A silly Caucasian girl likes to play with samurai swords”.
What I love about any Quentin Tarantino films are that it is so clear he loves movies. Kill Bill illustrates that love tactfully. Watching this movie is like watching a crash course on western samurai movies made by a nerd that loves western samurai movies (and if there was any doubt about Quentin Tarantino being a nerd that loves western samurai movies, Kill Bill eradicates it). Great entry in his catalogue, and hopefully Volume 2 is just as enjoyable
