Midsommar

One of my favorite things about this movie is that it changes completely depending on whether or not you view it as a break up film or a horror movie. For example, through the lens of a break up film, Christian is the cheating boyfriend that Dani finally sets herself free from. Her smile at the end is one of triumph. Through the lens of a horror movie, however, Christian is drugged and raped by a cult that systematically entraps Dani by cutting off every connection she has to her former life. Her smile at the end is one of indoctrination. Both perspectives are valuable to understanding this movie in its fullness.
