Private Screening
Watched it on my flight and ended up loving it for three reasons: first, I really enjoyed how the original story was being narrated through the film the protagonist was directing without us ever seeing it actively produced, and that layering gave the actors a fascinating double role playing themselves as they exist in the “real world” while simultaneously performing the characters inside the film-within-the-film, allowing you to hold two different perspectives on the same person, their actual self and the role they embody; second, I was struck by how much it echoed Sylvia Plath’s life, a woman who ended her own life after being abandoned only for her husband’s mistress to die years later in exactly the same way; and third… just Jane Birkin, lmao.
