Melancholia
I’d arrive right back to where I started from- at nothing.
This movie gives you a feeling of hopelessness to start and then throws it back at you as the movie ends, like a miserable circle. I loved how Justine and Claire was used to symbolize depression and anxiety, showing how the two conditions often go hand and hand and work against or with each other. The acting was phenomenal and I thought the uses of the score were nice. So many things to symbolize impending doom and the unstoppable, trudging force that is, and always will be, death. it makes me wonder how I’d feel at the end of the world. I thought the camera was a weird choice sometimes and almost reminiscent of something like Parks and Rec or The Office but it got better. that was probably done intentionally. Overall, a really good movie. I know many people who probably feel like Justine every day and it makes me hesitant to say that I’ve ever dealt with depression because I don’t think I’ve been that low before and I don’t think I ever will be.
