High and Low
Holy shit!!
Probably the most human police investigation drama I’ve ever seen, which in itself is unique, coz a “human police drama” is quite literally an oxymoron in most stories.
The contrast in class, power, and position in society was always present, yet an empathetic humanity was embodied by every character throughout.
I don’t know if it’s a reflection of the actual society at the time or Akira Kurosawa’s vision as a filmmaker of how he wants his camera to capture the world. One thing I can say for sure is that he’s quite possibly the greatest storyteller to ever use the medium of moving pictures.
