Paterson
Paterson is a film about thousands of conversations lost in noise...
Paterson is a solitary poet who drives bus in his namesake city, we follow him throughout the film but it's hardly his story. The film is about the random people we meet in our daily lives without ever actually interacting to them, all of them have their own stories and they are the heroes in them. Paterson offers us the perspective of seeing these stranger stories through the eyes of a person who is not completely involved in his thoughts, someone who genuinely interested, all of this is clearly reflected in his poetry.
Peterson's life feels like an endless loop, waking up at the same place every day at the same time, walking the same roads to work and doing the same routine every time. The only changing thing is his life is the conversations he has with people; never did we see him talk about his life with anyone. He was just quietly observing and appreciating everything and spilling his heart out in the secret notebook. So, when he loses his secret dairy, the only record of his unsaid words was gone, and we can see him losing is skills for observation and communication even without saying much, until he met the Japanese tourist and found a new diary which I hope won't become a secret one.
