Superman
James Gunn’s Superman (2025) is a fascinating case study in secure attachment theory weaponized against global cynicism. Clark Kent is basically the only person in cinema history who received such textbook, unconditional maternal and paternal validation that he completely bypassed developing an ego defense mechanism. Instead of projecting his alien alienation as a trauma response, he uses radical empathy and emotional regulation to navigate an overstuffed world of hyper-vigilant metahumans. Lex Luthor, on the other hand, is a masterclass in pathologically malignant narcissism and severe inferiority complex. His entire villain arc is just a massive, unhinged projection because he cannot psychologically handle a god-like entity who is genuinely altruistic and doesn't share his sociopathic pursuit of power. It’s a beautifully saturated, vibrant look at what happens when the most powerful person in the room chooses emotional safety over toxic dominance
