Trying to be a cinephile when the adhd isn't kicking ass Review is 3 stars or over - I think it's a good movie. Beyond that depends on how much I personally enjoyed it.

Mad props to Jake Gyllenhaal for managing to look so buglike throughout this movie. The scene when he and Nina are like 5cm away from kissing with Rick's bloodied face on screen between them is so evil.

How does one even balance this much whimsy, melancholy, camp and crack cocaine into a single movie

I read in Wikipedia that Eli Roth was inspired by this movie. Explains why Paxton in Hostel got that one butcher fit despite it having zero plot relevance and a total screentime of like 10 seconds.

I dunno why but I thought this movie was going to a 'John dies at the end' type of supernatural shenanigans from the poster. Holy hell was I wrong. Honestly I don't think anything I say can convey what this movie is and how I felt watching it. Just the feeling of being so, so alone even when you're surrounded by people who can and will understand. The guy in the bunny suit telling me to light things on fire is also very relatable. The plane engine originates from Donnie's split reality, but also is the defining cause of the split in the first place? Imagine a world that tells you you should die, and literally twists on itself to create a scenario where you do. I really don't know, trying to comprehend this movie is just getting me more and more confused.
