I love films that feature the wonderful trope of *Why are you giving up on your dream. No Dad, I’m giving up on yours.* It was ahead of its time and I think its a movie that all men should watch because it shows you that theres no such thing as a girl thing or a boy thing simply because one gender primarily does it. Boxing is for boys and girls. Ballet is for boys and girls. In another universe, Michael and Billy would have been gay lovers but I’m glad Billy was supportive enough of Michael to stay his friend even after finding out about his feelings. It also made my heart happy when he reciprocated the cheek kiss because he appreciated Michael so deeply. Also when Michael returned to see Billy Elliot in Swan Lake i died inside because oh my gosh what do you mean that you came to see your best friend who you havent seen in so long perform! Aah! And when his brother and father came to see him and finally supported him, a little bit of my simmering hate for them died too. They were perfect. I don’t think this is a movie I would ever be able to get over.

It definitely has not aged well, most of the things in this movie are derogatory and downright disgusting. And I wouldn’t even consider him to be a gentlemen, if anything he was just an asshole with an “i feel sorry for myself” attitude. Its also awful that they felt the need to describe women in only two ways: needing a man to save them, or not having enough self respect for themselves to find real love that they baby trap a pilot. It might be even worse the way that they made Lennette not even feel sorry for the fact that she did it, even after Sid killed himself, and there’s no way she wouldn’t have known that. The ending was cute in a cringy way. Its just old and may have been good when it first came out but it’s definitely not the kind of movie that gets better with age. Also in my head, he was just Mayonnaise. Nothing else. Just.. Mayonnaise.

"I don't want to live in a hole anymore. It makes me feel poor.""i guess he's just different.""Well, you know, I think I'm an athlete. And sometimes I feel like you guys don't see me that way.""You're supposed to be my lab partner... no you're not, You're disloyal.""I think I have this thing where I need everyone to think I'm the greatest -- the quote-unquote Fantastic Mr Fox. And if they aren't completely knocked out and dazzled and intimidated by me, I don't feel good about myself.""We're wild animals.""I know what it's like to feel different." "I'm not different, am I?" This movie had no rights being as good as it was for a kids movie. It's the kind of movie that leaves you staring at a wall thinking about it for hours, maybe even days. Its perfect for those who love to think but hate to overthink. We're just.. different.
