Joker
Goddamn... What a fucking piece of art.
This film constructs a perfect villain/anti-hero origin. Arthur is born from systemic oppression by the elite, the apathy of society, and a culture where people care only for themselves. He emerges not as a natural monster, but as the product of indifference and neglect.
Arthur is the kind of random man one could pass on the street without a second glance, until the accumulated weight of society's cruelty transforms him.
This movie made me think of Nietzsche's declaration "God is Dead". Society itself has killed God through apathy, hypocrisy and the erosion of compassion, leaving a nihilistic void. Arthur becomes the chaotic force that fills the emptiness.
"Happy. Hmm. I haven't been happy one minute of my entire fucking life"
"My life is nothing but a comedy"
