Together
Fantastic film! Fear of intimacy, fear of commitment, codependency, loss of identity/autonomy, love and toxicity, connection/disconnection explored through such an interesting premise! Loved it!
Started laughing as soon as he pulled the record out because I knew what song it would be, the whole film was such a fun cinema experience.
I think some people are missing the point of the ending (or I’m reading it completely differently but we didn’t ever see the relationship actually working, if we did I’d think differently), Tim should’ve let go but he couldn’t because he felt lost without Millie, he wasn’t living his own life and didn’t know how to. It wasn’t a happy ending, letting go would’ve been the healthy thing to do, as the other couple had tried to do but not through mutual decision (I’m assuming one had turned on the other, which is sometimes how a relationship would naturally end). You have outside societal influences that magnify this idea that you aren’t complete without a relationship, without being married but it’s not true, you are complete as an individual, you aren’t missing another half. Millie was stuck too (literally lol) because she had this idea of Tim at the beginning of the relationship, there was love but it wasn’t working (hadn’t been for a while, they’d become complacent) and it wasn’t moving forward.
You have these ideas of people, you get stuck on that and can’t see the bad parts because you’re only remembering what was once good. Move on and be your own person. There’s so much respect for the other person if you’re willing to move on from them if the relationship didn’t work, you weren’t for them or they weren’t for you.
You can live if living is without them, there’s a missed song choice there for ya.
