Disgusting. Horrible. And, above all, not in any way “genius” as it pretends to be. Portraying violence against women is never the “absolute cinema” people think it is; this is just torture porn. To enjoy this movie, you first have to be evil, then CALMLY sit through an hour and a half of racism, transphobia, homophobia, and misogyny. And oh, did I mention the 10-minute rape scene too? (Unsurprisingly, the only lengthy scene with consistently stable camerawork.) Clearly, this is a film made by a man for men. Other than that scene, which exists purely for shock value, I don’t think it would have gotten nearly as much attention as it has. I regret forcing myself to even watch this.

**Happy Pride Month! ** First off, what a stunning film! Everything about it (the visuals, the soundtrack, the villa, every single detail) works together to make it so pleasing to watch. Grabe, I super loved every second of it. One thing that kept bugging me during the entire film was the age gap. It is problematic. Pero if anything, I don’t think that this film is a love story nor it romanticizes grooming. Rather, it showed the repercussions. I interpret this as a story of a teenager (Elio) navigating his sexuality and how an older person (like Oliver) holds so much power over someone that vulnerable. Though, the encounter actually helped Elio to understand who he is, making it a true coming-of-age. So heartbreaking 😪 + made me want to read the book!!

Me lang ba pinanood favorite movie niya para maintindihan ko siya +1 star dahil kay Jun Ji-hyun tbh, she made this movie watchable
