★★☆☆☆ I didn’t expect Supergirl to be a one-for-one adaptation of “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow”. My disappointment comes from the fact that it misunderstands why that story matters. The film borrows the comic’s premise but not its heart. The cast does the best they can but the script never gives its characters the depth they deserve. Kara Zor-El is a hero because, despite unimaginable trauma, she still chooses hope. That’s what makes her inspiring. I wanted this movie to leave people feeling that hope. Instead, I left feeling empty. If you’re curious about Supergirl, read “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow”. It tells the story this film never did.
