Mirror
What is there to say about this film that has not already been said a thousand times? Still, there are hardly any films out there that work with emotion as powerfully as this one.
At its core, the film explores the essence of life, what we have, what we’ve lost, and, perhaps most importantly, what we dream of. It moves through memory, childhood, and time itself, not as fixed points but as shifting impressions that refuse to settle into a single meaning.
Andrei Tarkovsky was one of the most interesting filmmakers of his time, and this is arguably his most interesting work. Nothing here stands stilleverything flows, like wind through trees or water across a surface so that Mirror doesn’t feel like something you simply watch, but something you move with.
In that sense, it keeps on living long after it ends, reshaping itself each time you return to it, shaping into memory itself.
