American Psycho
A truly disturbing and unfiltered satire of the ruthless american upper class in the 80s, American Psycho does a great job of showing us the insanity of the industry and mindset embedded in the high stakes workplace.
Led by an astounding performance by Christian Bale, American Psycho sets itself apart through the main character being absolutely unhinged while also blending in perfectly with this peers. Its a running joke in the film that everyone looks the same, talks the same, and acts the same to the point that they oftentimes mix up eachothers names. In this it does a great job of mirroring the theme that everyone is doing the same ultra competitive things to get to the top and try to separate theirselves.
I especially love movies and shows where the unstable main character runs an internal dialogue through the whole film, and I feel like it can be pretty difficult to pull off well. Thats not a problem in this film, and it probably helps that it was adapted from a book.
If a movie can leave you mesmerized following a scene comparing business cards for five minutes, you know its something special lol
