The Fly
I walked into this movie only knowing that it was was Jeff Goldblum, and uses practical effects. I didn't expect for this great love story, hindered by Goldblum's thirst for success. Honestly the practical effects were disgusting, but that helped to make it as horrifying as it was.
My favorite part was seeing how this fly completrely takes over his life, and he is helpless to fight against it. It does a good job of progressing the theme of a character trying to work through troubles coming from within, rather than something external you may see in a ton of movies. The fly could possible represent any troubling feeling, and this shows how that can complketely take over someones life.
This movie does a surprisingly good job of creating a believable love story, and also gives great believable characters without delving too far into their back stories.
Ending Spoiler
This film would be a five star for me if it didn't end with her boss coming and partially saving the day. That just felt a little rushed and out of nowhere, when he was this sleezy dude the whole movie. Still, The Fly was a great movie and the most insane use of practical effectrs I think I have ever seen.
